Yes, Flowers

I try to stay away from photographing flowers because, well, everyone takes pictures of flowers and I don't like doing what everyone else is doing. I'm a loner like that. However, even I will be tempted by a pretty petal from time to time, especially if it is my mom's flowers because I know she likes that. When I was up at my parents' house in Michigan most recently, in May, I took some photos of my mother's gorgeous peony bush. This half-opened blossom was the best of that bunch:

Out in the natural garden that is their side yard, I found this perfect specimen of a dandelion gone to seed:

And up close:

Pretty, yes?

I don't think flowers are lame. who cares what other people do. their flower pictures are crap. yours are good. I LOVE those pictures that you showed us once that you made of weird flower sculptures in the woods.

Thanks Tdog. Sometimes taking pictures of things that get photographed a lot is a good exercise because it challenges one to find a unique perspective. I think that's why I am more drawn to my photo of the half-opened peony, rather than the others in full bloom.

And I've been wanting to revisit that series of photos in the woods ever since I finished my MA. I haven't gotten to know the parks around Bmore as well as back in GR, so I think that's deterred me. Although, I had once thought of doing a companion series based in a city environment. Maybe that's the way to go right now.
